I'm having so much fun with this project, and I think you could have a lot of fun with it too! If you think you might be interested in starting your own Project 365 and/or feel at all inspired by me/mine, let me know so I can feature you over on my other blog, just like Shelly, Andrea, Michelle, Jesse, and Dianne.

More Zoo Fun

We attended our zoo parent's picnic last night (a zoo parent sponsorship of the Jaguar was our wedding gift from my dad!), and it was great to have access to the animals, with so few other people there and in the evening when a lot of them seemed to be more active than we've seen them before. Here are a few favorite pictures from our evening out at the zoo.

They had several animals out of cages and available to touch, like an albino hedgehog (he was SO cute), and this Boa Constrictor.

I wish I had a better camera, let me tell you! This Lion was totally posing for me.

I'd never actually seen the hyenas out and about before. This guy was walking all over and wasn't shy at all about having his picture taken.

The Snow Leopard took up a lot of our time and attention, though. She was completely gorgeous, and sank into this position just after we arrived to watch her play in her habitat.

As awesome as these four were at capturing our attention, my favorite shot of the day was of the adorable Red Panda snoozing in a tree. But that made it over to my Project 365 Blog, so you'll have to head over there to peek at it.

Thanks again for the awesome zoo parentship gift, dad! We really have enjoyed it this year, and look forward to continuing our sponsorship of the Sacramento Zoo in the years to come. Oh, and ummm...Happy Father's Day too!

Canstuction

My company does a volunteer activity every year to promote giving back to our local community. This year they organized a canned food and supplies drive for the Placer County Food Bank and the Placer County ASPCA.

There were two competitions within our office. The office was divided into groups based on the work we do/our work teams (i.e. Transportation Group, Water Group, Construction Management Group, etc). The first part of the competition was to see which group could bring in the most food/supplies. The second was a competition for who could build the "most creative" structure with their food/supplies. Unfortunately, I only have photos of our team's structure and the winning structure, but I thought I'd share them here.

Our team (Water Group) built a dog house and used towels (ASPCA supplies) to create dogs and a bone and a dog bowl. We thought it was particularly neat since it was for the ASPCA. But we didn't win.

The Transportation Group put this together, and it really was pretty amazing. Check out the billboards and the trucks! I also love how they were able to build the ramps using different size cans. Very creative, and completely group-appropriate.

Like I said, I wish I had pictures of the other structures. It was such a fun and creative way to do good for our local community. And best of all, our company was able to donate 50% more food/supplies than our original goal. The entire thing was such a great success.

I really love my job, my work, and my company.

Where Have I Been?

Oh...here, there, everywhere...

One of my very insightful friends recently pointed out that Stefanie's Project 365 Stories have sort of "replaced" Stefanie's Stories. Well, that's not TOTALLY true...buuuuut, I do find that if I haaaaave to take one photo a day (at least), and I take a photo of something I've cooked (for example), I pretty much don't take another picture that day.

What I'm trying to say is - soon on the 365 blog I'll be posting some of the latest things I've been doing in the kitchen, as well as more stories and photos to answer the question - What have you been up to?

So, yeah...venture over there for an update. Because this is really all I have for you today on this blog. Sorry.

You've Never Seen Me THIS Angry

Remember this?

You guys have seen me get all angry and passionate before, but nothing (and I’m pretty sure I mean NOTHING) has enraged me quite like this in a very long time (if not ever).

KRXQ Sacramento Radio Hosts Encourage Violence Against Transgender Children

Now, this isn't about what I'm normally raising my voice about. It's not. Because regardless of how you feel about same-sex marriage or gay rights, it is inconceivable how can anyone with any shred of human decency can actually think it is okay to support and encourage violence, ridicule, and mockery of innocent and vulnerable children!!!!

I urge you to look away from this hideous excuse of morning radio talk show "entertainment" at the very least. If you’re like me, this isn’t a show that under normal circumstances would particularly float your boat, and in that case I strongly urge you to forward the link to others, express your disgust, and raise your voices.

No one should get away with this kind of sickening “humor.”

What could possibly be funny about the harm something like this can (and has!!) caused?

Like it’s not already impossibly difficult enough to be a child in today’s world? Like it’s not a bazillion times harder to be a transgender child in today’s world? In 1999, one in every three gay youths would attempt suicide (according to a study published by the CDC)...one in every three! Suicide!

WHY WOULD SOMEONE CHOOSE THIS FOR THEMSELVES???

HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO CRUEL???

AND STUPID?!

I’m appalled and disgusted and really, really, really sad.

Up Does Not Disappoint

Edit to add: there are now spoiler-ish statements in the comments section of this post (but not the post itself).

See this movie as soon as you can. Disney Pixar has done something incredible, yet again. My goodness, they amaze.

Bring tissues.

I absolutely, positively adored this film, and I left the theater feeling a renewed sense of the incredible importance of living each day to the very fullest.

I laughed, I cried. I loved.
