Our Latest Adventure

Looking forward to turning this blog into all things enjoying, living, playing, renovating, fixing, prettifying, and most importantly owning a home.

Pork Chops with Mustard Sauce

It's been months (and maybe even a year) since I put my feelers out and asked some culinarily inspiring friends just what they recommend I do with a pork chop.

Sarah recommended this recipe.

And it was easy, fast, and positively delicious. It has become an absolute staple in our household. We had it the other night and I realized I've never blogged before about my love of it. So, here is the post to declare my love and adoration for all things Mustard Sauce. We love the sauce so much, I typically make a little extra to be enjoy with some brown rice.

Completely delish. And highly recommended.

It's been 8 months since I started my Project 365.

I'm (still!) having so much fun with this project, and I think you could have a lot of fun with it too! If you think you might be interested in starting your own Project 365 and/or feel at all inspired by me/mine, let me know so that I can feature you over on my other blog, just like Shelly, Andrea, Michelle, Jesse, Dianne, and Olivia.

Anyone Feel Like a Fagerbomb?

At my local Savemart, yesterday afternoon.

Maybe this is Jagermeister's Halloween costume? Or it's evil, less disgusting twin?

Is this Fail Blog worthy?

Sacramento Zoo Fun

On Friday, my friend Ashley brought her daughter Sofia to visit and we had lunch and then visited the zoo.

Sofia was such a joy to be around. Such a bright, talkative, friendly little girl and though I can remember clearly the day she was born, after spending an entire day with her I was completely flabbergasted that that day was less than two years ago. She is just SO smart. Wise beyond her year. ha!

I snapped more than 50 pictures while we walked around the zoo, more than 30 of which I'm trying to figure out how to forward on to Ashley, and 7 of which I love so much, I don't know how I'll ever pick a favorite for my project. Maybe you guys can help me...

Sofia as a Joey! (maybe you guys remember when Todd was this same Joey?)

Curiosity about a (BIG) cat!

Ashley, Sofia, Tiger

She stood on the bench, got my attention and said "take my smile!"

All day long, after every animal we'd see, Sofia would say she wanted to go see the penguins. Unfortunately, there are no penguins at the Sacramento Zoo. Or so I thought.

I stand corrected. She even got to give him a hug!

On the carousel, where she'd come around and see me with a camera, give me a big wave and say "Hiiiii Steffy!" I love the blurry, waving hand in this one. Isn't she adorable?

Ashley said Sofia kept telling her, "I liiiike this!"

And, I think I had just as much fun as she did ;) !

My Attempt to Make 29 Feel Like 10 Again!

Todd basically told me exactly what to get him for his birthday. Like, he went so far as to email me a link to the place to order the thing. Kind of kills the elements of surprise and excitement, right? But I also really wanted him to have what he wanted. But he couldn't just have it easily.

Here's how I made him work for it, all while trying to make him feel like a kid again on his 29th birthday.

I picked up 9 greeting cards at Longs (I considered doing 29, but that seemed like overkill...and fyi: 9 might be overkill, as you'll soon learn in this marathon of a blog post...haha).

I was fortunate to find the $0.99 card section, which is where all but the last card came from.

I organized them from the last card I wanted him to find to the first, and wrote on a post-it note where the card would be hidden and what the note inside the card would say.

I knew I wanted him to find his gift in the trunk of my car, so the last card would be on my front seat of my Civic with a note to "Pop the trunk"

Once all the cards were organized with post-its, I wrote a little note in each one, sealed them up, and placed them around the house.

All 9 birthday cards ready to be hidden.

When he came home for lunch, I gave him the first card.

The first card directed him to find his birthday present at his absolute favorite gift he's ever received from me...

...but there (the Taylor guitar I got him as a wedding gift) he only found another card!

...this time directing him to find the most nerd-tastic element of our August '08 wedding in order to find his gift...

...sure enough, he found a card behind our Enginerdtastic wedding seating chart in our office...

(gotta love Hallmarks $0.99 card collection)

...this card told him to find his gift in an item he purchased 3 years and 1 day ago today...

And I had him stumped.

See, 3 years and one day ago today, we had our second actual, first "official" date to Rio Vista where we flew a kite together at the high school, shared our first kiss, and...

...oh yeah, Todd bought a photograph of the Rio Vista Bridge from my uncle's gallery that day...

...a photograph that hangs now in our hallway which is where he found card #4!

Card #4 told him to find his gift where the lives of our cats were made happier and our lives made simpler and less smelly...

...the cat door!

This card told him to find his gift in the place we snuggle up to watch movies and TV together.

And he went right for the couch...

Where he read...

...that he could find his gift at the convenience appliance we moved to this home to acquire...

Our washer and dryer!

In this card, I promised that under our bed was an actual gift to be unwrapped.

And there was!

He was expecting something a little bigger...

"what I asked for wouldn't fit in this box," I'm sure he was thinking...

"An iPhone??" Nope, just the box.

But what's inside?

Haha...another wrapped box.

With a key inside...a very recognizable key. The valet key to my car.

Then he read the card...

You probably don't need this final clue, but head to the place *I* was sitting when you first laid lip on me *smooch smooch* (on the cheek)

He grabbed Cozy and ran out the front door with the key.

He unlocked the driver side door.

And he read his ninth birthday card.

It was schmoopy and sentimental. It's his birthday. And I love him.

The card ended with "Pop the Trunk"

He knew.

He was excited.

He popped the trunk.

He smiled. A lot. (Favorite picture!!)

"Yeah! I got the ukulele I wanted so badly!!"

"Thanks so much, sweetie!"

"Oh my GOD, Dude...NO way!! It's gooooorgeous!!"

"Is this the one I asked for?..."

"No, really!?!? Because it looks so much better in person than on the website!!"

And then there was beautiful music.

I think he likes it. I think he likes it a LOT.

Please forgive all my blurry, low quality pictures. I have a renewed respect for event photographers...you can't just ask someone to reenact a fabulous look of surprise because your flash wasn't working properly. haha.
